Lack of YAC

Okay, YACsters. As you probably know by now, the library was closed on Tuesday and we missed our meeting. Unfortunately, we will not be able to reschedule our meeting. So here's what you need to know:

1. Directors for Fairy Tale Theatre have been chosen. The next Fairy Tale Theatre Committee meeting will be on Friday, March 2 at 6:30 pm. We will discuss directorial duties and future meeting dates.
2. We are setting up a Summer Reading Committee. If you would like to help plan Summer Reading at the library, please come at 7pm on Tuesday, March 6. For those of you unfamiliar with Summer Reading, it is a program at the library where we give you prizes for reading books. The committee will discuss the prizes, the name of the program, and other things you want to do this summer. We would love to have help with this!
3. The Chicago Wolves are coming to the TPPL! A Wolves hockey player, to be named later, will be at the library on Wednesday, February 28 at 7pm. All are welcome at this program.
4. Remember to sign up for programs this month!

Bake-off Success!

Just wanted to let you know how much fun the bake-off was tonight! 15 brave souls came and really showed us their stuff. They brought their cupcakes and along with the materials provided-choc chips, coconut, marshmallows, frosting, and pretzels- they whipped up some awesome creations with the winners being the team of Alyssa G. and Phoumany! They created Snoopy on top of his dog house in the winter! They even put lights on his roof! Congratulations to all... everyone is in the running for the grand prize- even if you didn't come this time. Remember to sign up for the next one on Feb. 23!

Fun at the lock-in/Bake-off

I hope you all had as good a time at the lock-in as I did! Thanks to the lock-in committee for coming up with such a great theme and activities. I hope you all got caught up on your sleep- I know I'm still tired! Kudos to Miss Lowe, Mrs. Lukich, and Mrs. Kanjo for making this such fun. Hope to see all of you at the next group of programs- this Friday is the Bake-off with a Twist... if you are already registered, don't forget your 1 dozen cupcakes!

Hey YACstars... We can't wait to see you at the lock-in on Friday night! Remember the theme is Movies/Academy Awards so you'll want to dress glam if you can. There are exciting and funny awards to be won for your ensemble- that's your outfit- so put on some Ritz! It's okay if you don't dress up- you might want to practice a funny accent or phony smile or two to be in the running for other less glam but important awards! See you at 8:30!

Bake-off With a Twist

There's an exciting new program coming soon to the TPPL near you! If you like to bake (or eat baked goods) and like having fun, check out the new version of the Bake-off! It's a bit like an "Iron-Chef" version of baking where you or you with a partner will create a dessert like no other. Stop by the YS reference desk to register or call us for more details- you won't want to miss this! The 1st bake-off is Friday, January 26 at 7pm.

Hey YACsters! I hope you all are having a great 2007 so far. Has anybody made an interesting New Year's resolution?

To all Yacsters on winter break... if you're just hanging out on Friday, Jan 5 come on by the library and watch a few of your favorite TV episodes with us! We're going to be couch potatoes and watch Fresh Prince, Simpsons, and Full House shows while eating snacks- of course! We'll be starting at 7pm, so take a break from all that homework you're catching up on! Ha! Hope to see you here!

Around the World December 29th

Dear fellow yacsters: Don't forget about Around the World on Friday, December 29th from 7-8:30!!! We are going to be visiting Greece! There is going to be some awesome food, great games, and a special craft. So, don't miss out! Also, I want to wish all of you a happy holiday!

Lock-In

We announced the theme of the Winter 2007 Lock-In at the YAC party. For those of you who weren't there, the theme of the party is Movies/Academy Awards. If you were not at the party, but are eligible to come to the lock-in, I will mail the permission slip and info sheet home. At the next YAC meeting, you will need to sign up to bring a food item. The winter lock-in is a potluck style affair, so if no one signs up to bring it, it wont be there!

If you have any questions regarding the lock-in, please respond to this message or call the library and ask for Mrs Bailey or Miss Lowe. Miss Lowe will be out of town from 12/23-1/1.

YAC party

Hello YACsters! If you missed out on the YAC party, you missed a fabulous evening! There was, alas, no karaoke, but we still managed to have a good time. :)

It's not too late! Just in case you forgot to register for this Saturday's Crafting With Nature program (12/16), feel free to come anyway! We'll be making awesome edible crafts for the birds... and enjoying snacks for us! It starts at 2pm and ends at 3:30pm. Hope to see you there!

Basketball program

Hi fellow yacsters: Just wanted to let you know that if you missed basketball night, you really missed out on some great games and snacks. Not to worry, though, because there are some sports programs in the future that are coming up such as: the super bowl party, on January 30th, and hockey night, on February 6th. If there are any kinds of games you would really like to play, let me know. So far, for hockey, we have a goalie contest, paper hockey, and shooting and passing contests. For other sports programs in the future, we have two tennis votes, and two baseball votes. If you would like, you can take this survey:

Congrats to Nicole Zabrinas and Denise Wargowski for their awesome performances in Once Upon A Mattress- the winter play at Andrew HS. Miss Lowe, Mrs. Kanjo, and I had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! We hope you didn't break any eyelashes!

Sports programs

Hey fellow yacsters: Hope you all had a great thanksgiving! I wanted to remind you of the next sports programs that are gearing up. If you missed football field day, you will definetely want to make the next sports program, basketball night on December 12th at 7-8:30 p.m. We will be playing some basketball games and eating great snacks! Also, if there are any future sports programs that you would like to see at the library, let me know!

You Pick We Play update

Here's the results from the survey we did at the YAC meeting on November 14. Remember I asked you what your favorite TV shows were so that at the "You Pick We Play" program in January (Jan. 5 to be exact), I could show TV episodes you want to see. Anyway, here are the top three winners:

Bake Sale

Something we forgot to tell you at the YAC meeting this week-we have been asked to do the bake sale again this year. It will be the first weekend in November. At the next meeting, we will be looking for volunteers to bake and also to work at the booth. It is lots of fun-you get to spend extra time with Miss Lowe.

What TV shows do you like to watch? We are thinking of having a you pick it, we play it night at the library with TV shows, but we need to know what DVDs to get. Also, what anime do you like?

May volunteers needed

We now have two opportunities for you to volunteer in May, in addition to the Summer Reading Volunteers we also need.
On May 13, we are having a bagging party for the summer reading club. You can help us put together the prize bags that the little kids will get over the summer. Refreshments will be served.
On May 20, there will be a parade on Oak park Ave. of storybook characters. We need two or three volunteers willing to dress up as story book characters and help out at the parade.

These are both Saturdays. Times to be announced. Please let me know if you are interested.

I forgot to mention this at the meeting last night. We will be having a bagging party on Saturday, May 13. This is to help Youth Services put together the prize bags for the Summer Reading Club. If you are interested, please let me know. Pop will be provided. Maybe snacks, too?

Recap of last night's YAC meeting

In case you missed it, here are the highlights!

• The lock-in committee meeting will be on May 9 at 7pm
• There will be a field trip to Borders in Orland on May 2. YAC members interested in going must have a signed permission slip turned in by May 1. We will meet at the Borders at 6:30 pm.
• Auditions for Fairy Tale Theatre are on May 16 at 5:30pm. Anyone interested in participating in crew should also plan to attend, or speak with Miss Lowe or Mrs. Bailey ahead of time.
• The summer YAC field trip will be on Tuesday, August 8. We will be going to see the Windy City Thunderbolts play. Letters regarding the field trip and the lock-in will be sent home after the lock-in committee meeting.

When the name Alan Smithee is credited as a film's director, it means the real director has disavowed the project and does not want his or her real name used.

At the YAC meeting last week, we discussed the summer Field Trip and took ideas. These are the ideas we received:

Volunteer needed

We need one or two volunteers for Earth Day, Saturday, April 22, from 2:30-4:30. If you choose to help out, you would be handing out crafts to small children and just generally being pleasant.
