Fall Program Registration Date

This fall, we are trying something new for program registration. We have one registration date for all of our programs this fall. So, if there is a program you want to go to in September, October, or November, call us, e-mail us, or stop by the library on September 5 to sign up. You can also sign up for any program here on the blog.

Someday We'll All Be Action FIgures

Did you know that we have our own teen improv group at the TPPL? It's true! This group is waaay funnier than anything you've ever seen on Whose Line Is It Anyway?! This fall, the group is looking for new talent. It could even be you! Come to our open audition on Tuesday, September 5, at 7:00 pm. Come on by and give it a try! Summer Reading Program

May volunteers needed

We now have two opportunities for you to volunteer in May, in addition to the Summer Reading Volunteers we also need.
On May 13, we are having a bagging party for the summer reading club. You can help us put together the prize bags that the little kids will get over the summer. Refreshments will be served.
On May 20, there will be a parade on Oak park Ave. of storybook characters. We need two or three volunteers willing to dress up as story book characters and help out at the parade.

These are both Saturdays. Times to be announced. Please let me know if you are interested.

Oops, I forgot!

I forgot to mention this at the meeting last night. We will be having a bagging party on Saturday, May 13. This is to help Youth Services put together the prize bags for the Summer Reading Club. If you are interested, please let me know. Pop will be provided. Maybe snacks, too?

Recap of last night's YAC meeting

In case you missed it, here are the highlights!

• The lock-in committee meeting will be on May 9 at 7pm
• There will be a field trip to Borders in Orland on May 2. YAC members interested in going must have a signed permission slip turned in by May 1. We will meet at the Borders at 6:30 pm.
• Auditions for Fairy Tale Theatre are on May 16 at 5:30pm. Anyone interested in participating in crew should also plan to attend, or speak with Miss Lowe or Mrs. Bailey ahead of time.
• The summer YAC field trip will be on Tuesday, August 8. We will be going to see the Windy City Thunderbolts play. Letters regarding the field trip and the lock-in will be sent home after the lock-in committee meeting.

Lock-In

If you were at the party last night you found out the theme for the lock-in and received your permission slips. If you were not at the party last night, you missed out on lots of fun (and presents!), but your lock-in forms will soon be on their way. I will be mailing them out today or tomorrow, so watch your mailboxes for them. If you haven't received them by Christmas, call the library or post a message here (with your name!) and I will get back to you. Don't just come into the library for one, because only active YAC members may come and I keep that list, so the other librarians will be unable to help you. YAY lock-in!

lock-in committee meeting

There will be a lock-in committee meeting this Friday, December 9, at 6pm. We will meet to discuss the theme, as well as what people should bring. Remember, the winter lock-in is a pot-luck. I know many of you cannot make the meeting and I am sorry for that. Because people need to sign up to bring things, we needed to have the meeting before the YAC holiday party.

The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe

You may have noticed the large Narnia display in the library. Well, we are having a swell Narnia contest RIGHT NOW!! You could win a gift card to Marcus Theatre as well as a copy of the book. Harry Potter

Hey! The library is selling tickets to an advance screening of the *new* Harry Potter movie. It opens this Friday, but you can see it on Thursday at 7pm! On September 10, the library will be having it's first birthday party. There will be games, face painting, and a petting zoo from 10:00 am-12:00 pm. Improv!

Tinley Park's own Someday We'll All Be Action Figures will bring their unique brand of improvisational comedy to the library this Wed., May 25 at 7pm. If you like "Whose Line Is It Anyway", you will love SWABAF. If you have no idea what I am talking about, come to the library on Wed. to find out. You won't regret it!

YAC Lock-In

The lock-in letters will go out in tomorrow's mail. The envelope also contains information on the summer field trip. Letters were sent only to those YAC members eligible for these events. Keep your eyes on the mailbox!

11 Read N Rant at 6:00 pm. We will be discussing The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold.
12 Teen Talk at 4:00 pm. We will be discussing Jefferson's Children by Shannon Lanier, an African-American descendent of Thomas Jefferson.
18 Fairy Tale Theatre Auditions at 5:30 pm. Teens interested in audition for the play or in joining crew should attend.
20 Fairy Tale Theatre Crew Meeting at 6:00 pm.
25 Improv Night at 7:00 pm. Come see the comic stylings of Some Day We'll All be Action Figures. They're really funny-I promise!

Robin Hood!

Scripts for this summer's Fairy Tale Theatre Production are now on sale at the Youth Services Desk. The scripts are $4, payable in cash only. Additional preview copies are available for study within the library. Auditions will be on May 18 at 5:30 pm.

April Activities

Here's what's going on at the Library this month:

April 10-16: National Library Week "I Spy" Contest. Check out the bulletin board in Youth Services for full details. You could win a $20 gift card to Borders Books and Music.

April 13: YAC Meeting and Cafe Ole. At YAC, we will be celebrating our collective birthdays with cake and presents. Cafe Ole will be game show night, so come test out your Jeopardy skills!

April 20: Start off the evening with the Lock-In committee meeting at 5:00pm. (This is open only to YAC members) We will be planning the activities for our Mythology themed lock-in this summer.
At 6:00pm, Read N Rant begins. This is our book group for teens in 10-12 grades. This month's book is Sorcery and Cecelia, which I would describe as Jane Austen meets Harry Potter.
Finally, at 7:00pm, we have Well Said!, our debate meeting. This month's topic is Genetically Modified Foods. Are they harmful to people and the environment? Should science stay away from nature? Or is it more important to feed starving people? Let us know what you think!

April 21:Teen Talk will be meeting at 4:00pm to discuss King of Shadows, a tale involving the great Bard himself, Shakespeare. Teen Talk is for teens in 6-9 grades.

Summer Volunteers

Volunteer applications are now available at the Youth Services Reference Desk. If you need to complete volunteer hours, this is a great way to get it done! Volunteers must be completing grades 6-12, and will help the librarians with a variety of things, including storytime programs and the Summer Reading booth. Applications are due back on Monday, April 18, so act quickly!

YAC Meeting
