I am looking for 4 volunteers for the Outdoor Field Day on July 16, from 12:30-3:00pm. Let me know if you are interested! We really need your help!!

Crew Meeting

Hi fello yacsters: Don't forget the crew meeting for Fairy Tale Theatre is this Saturday, May 31st from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. We will be sketching and painting the sets. Don't forget to bring a main entree(sandwich.) The library will provide pop and snacks. Don't forget to wear painting clothes! See you there!

Correction!

The YAC field trip is on July 22. One of the forms you may have gotten says July 29, but that is incorrect. The field trip is on July 22. Please make sure that you mark the correct date on your calendar!

Sports off the Wall-Low Tech Fun!!!!!

Bake-off III Super Chef Results

Congrats to Darouny and Kelsey for winning the grand prize in this year's Bake-off held last Friday. We started Round #4- Desserts- with the team standings very close- really, the grand prize was up for grabs... but, it was the combination of good taste and awesome schmoozing that gave Team PWBU the winning edge and made them this year's Super Chefs! Not to be outdone, and just as talented, were the second place winners- Team PAC-Caitlin and Spencer,and third place finishers- Team Fast Fryers- Nick and Scott. Thanks to everyone who participated this year and created some very tasty dishes... watch for next year's version of the Bake-off, Bake-off IV- Four Ingredients!

YAC party

Hey cowboys and cowgirls! Put on your western hats and get ready for the YAC Western party, which is this Tuesday, May 6th at 6 p.m. It's going to a swinging good time, with fabulous snacks and games. You can R.S.V.P. by replying to this blog or calling the library at 532-0160.

Poster Contest

The Illinois Library Association and Illinois Reading Enrichment and Development (iRead) are sponsoring a poster contest to promote teen reading. The contest is open to all middle and high school aged artists, and should illustrate the theme "Scare up a good book". The poster will be the basis for the YA iRead Summer reading Program in 2010.
The poster should include images of books, a library, or something related to reading. All art and characters MUST be original. We cannot use existing cartoon or comic characters. Artwork should be appropriate for hanging in public libraries.
Poster size can be up to 19 by 26 inches. Final art can be either computer generated or a drawing, painting, or collage using traditional media. If submitting computer art, please be sure that it is either vector art (Adobe Illustrator), or, it is is a Photoshop file, that it is 300 pixels per inch. A completed entry form must accompany all entries. Ask for an entry form at the Youth Services Desk.
All entries are due to TPPL by July 31, 2008, and will become the property of the Illinois Library Association. The statewide winner will be announced in October, 2008, and that winner will receive $1000 in prize money. For more information to to www.ila.org/iread

FTT Crew Meeting

Hi fellow yacsters: Exciting news!!! This Saturday, May 3rd at 10 a.m. is the first crew meeting for Fairy Tale Theatre's production, Alice in Wonderland. We will be whitewashing the sets. Make sure that you wear old clothes and gym shoes. Snacks will be provided for those who attend. The meeting should last a few hours. If you can make it, great! The help will be greatly appreciated. This Friday- Get a Clue!

Feel free to come to Friday's program, Get a Clue! It starts at 7pm and ends around 8:15pm. There is plenty of space, so bring a friend! We'll be gathering clues and solving crimes- with snacks, of course! Hope to see you there!

Poetry Month

Hi fellow yacsters: April is National Poetry Month, so don't forget to read your favorite poetry! A cool website to check out is: http://www.poets.org/. It has a lot of fun ideas that you could do this month with poetry. On April 17th, it's National Poem in Your Pocket Day, where you carry one of your favorite poems to school and work and share it with others.

Twister games

Hi fellow yacsters! I just wanted to remind you about bringing twister games on Friday, April 25th from 7-8:15 p.m. for 60's Night. Also, don't forget to wear your hippie or mod clothes! Volunteer Applications

Volunteer Applications to help with summer reading are now available. They are due back to the library by May 9. These hours will count for most community service requirements. We will have them at the YAC meeting, so pick one up them.

As National Library Week draws closer, here are some library facts for you:

Americans spend more than twice as much on salty snacks as they do on public libraries.

Americans spend almost 10 times more in home video games than they do on school library materials for their children.

In spite of this, there are more than 16,000 public libraries in the United States. We outnumber McDonalds. Woohoo!
